Edge Load Balancer (ELB)

Intelligent Edge: the SIP load balancer that knows every call type.

Intelligent Edge sits in front of your switches and SBCs and asks the ICP routing policy engine where each call type belongs, so every port carries the traffic it is meant for. Add Network Defender and fraud, robocalls and attacks stop there too.

Why it exists

The piece left over once routing, rates and quality are done.

Once customers and vendors are set up, rate decks analyzed, routing policies defined and quality alarms in place, one piece is still missing if you want to maximize quality, revenue, traffic volume or margin: an intelligent load balancer in the network.

A plain load balancer spreads traffic. Intelligent Edge is port-aware across your entire network footprint and asks the routing policy engine how, and where, each call should go - so it can protect the network and optimize switch and SBC port utilization at the same time.

GCS built it with existing carrier customers, working with them to deploy, test and refine it, and calls it the keystone for optimizing a voice traffic business.

Intelligent Edge at the network edge SIP traffic from carrier partners reaches Intelligent Edge first. Working with the ICP routing policy engine, it sends valid calls to the right switch and SBC ports by call type and blocks invalid calls; with the Network Defender option it also blocks fraud and robocalls before they enter the network. Inbound SIP traffic Intelligent Edge edge load balancer ICP routing policy engine Wholesale ports Retail ports Short duration ports Switch / SBC ports Blocked at the edge: invalid calls; fraud and robocalls with Network Defender
Intelligent Edge takes SIP traffic at the edge, asks the routing policy engine what each call is, and sends it to the ports built for that call type. With Network Defender, fraud and attack traffic never reaches the switches.
Call types

Every call goes to the ports built for it.

Because it talks to the routing policy engine, Intelligent Edge knows what kind of call it is looking at before the call reaches a switch.

It distributes calls by type and by origin, so short duration traffic, retail and plain wholesale each land on the right ports.

Network Defender option

Stop the loss at the edge, before it becomes a cost.

Fraud found at reconciliation has already been paid for. Intelligent Edge keeps invalid calls off your ports, and the Network Defender option blocks fraud and attacks before they access your network.

At the network edge

  • SHAKEN/STIR compliant
  • Separates valid from invalid calls
  • Sits in front of your switches and SBCs
  • Asks the ICP routing policy engine about every call

Port utilization

  • Port-aware across the entire network footprint
  • Distributes calls by type and origin
  • Keeps short duration traffic on its own ports
  • Optimizes switch and SBC port utilization

Network Defender

  • Blocks fraud, robocalls and bad traffic before it enters
  • Protection against DoS/DDoS and SIP-based attacks
  • AI-driven anomaly detection for unusual traffic
  • Geo-blocking and IP reputation management
  • Automated alerting and mitigation
