Why specialization matters

When complexity increases, specialization is required.

Seems pretty obvious right? Yet companies sometimes convince themselves that it isn’t that important when selecting a solution. In the interconnect voice world, where complexity is part and parcel of every day operations, specialization is critical. Not just in the employees that are performing the daily functions, but in the vendor that provides the interconnect voice management platform.

The outside world has no idea the amount of complexity that is part of the interconnect voice world. The volume of data, the granularity required to make the right routing decision, the criticality of the solution working all the time at varying performance levels. This stuff ain’t easy. In fact, to do it well requires enormous experience, domain knowledge, and real world operations.

The simple analogy is that when professional athletes injure their knees, they don’t go to a general practitioner, they go to an orthopedic specialist. Why do they do that? Because their financial livelihood is on the line and they want to make sure they get the best advice and care available so they go to a specialist. It’s actually crazy that businesses go to general practitioners instead of specialists. Some of our most recent wins in terms of customers were with companies who didn’t specialize in interconnect voice. Sure they offered a management platform, but they also built their own SBC, they did calling cards, and they did subscriber billing or subscriber fraud. They had a product portfolio that was bigger than just interconnect voice. That’s okay if you have a modest amount of traffic and did mostly retail. But if you are a sizable carrier with a large volume of off-net traffic, or a conferencing company, or an OTT, or voice application provider, then you need a specialist. Don’t waste time with generalists who have a broad product portfolio. This is critical to a carrier’s day-to-day operations. It affects their revenue. It affects their voice service.

Find a specialist and get the right solution you need for your business.
