Great question. Now, we aren’t fortune tellers, nor do we claim to have greater insight than our colleagues or customers. But, it is pretty clear that if you look at the industry as objectively as possible, there are some trends that are indisputable:
- Consolidation will continue to happen, if not accelerate.
- Smaller, niche players in the interconnect voice world will continue to face greater challenges as the marketplace settles and reduces arbitrage opportunities.
- The rich get richer as bigger carriers consolidate more and more of the available voice traffic.
- Dialer traffic will decline as a result of the U.S. election now being over.
At the face of it, it looks as though 2017 could be a tough year, but lets face it, we are used to it. The voice industry has faced constant market and technological challenges ever since that 1996 Telecommunications Act was passed and the adoption of VoIP went mainstream. The good news is that as a whole we are ready for it, and we have proven time and time again that our industry is dynamic, is resilient, and that we can adapt to any challenge. So, bring it on 2017!
